The short version

ScreenWise keeps everything on your PC. It makes no network requests, has no account, and sends nothing to BruhLabs or anyone else. This page explains what it records, where that lives, and how to remove it.

Who we are

ScreenWise is made by Manas Jha and published by BruhLabs, an independent software studio. In this policy, "we" means BruhLabs. Questions go to the email address at the end of this page.

What ScreenWise records

To show your screen time, ScreenWise saves the following on your PC:

  • Which app is in front, and when: the app's file path, name, icon and, for Store apps, its package name, with start and end times.
  • Whether that time was active, passive (reading without input), idle, or background listening.
  • Focus sessions: their label, length, the apps you allowed or restricted, and how many times you were interrupted.
  • Your app limits, categories, streaks and settings.
  • A companion photo, only if you choose to use one.

What ScreenWise checks, but doesn't keep

To measure your time accurately, it reads a few things from Windows as they happen. None of it is saved or sent anywhere:

  • How long since you last used the keyboard or mouse, to tell active time from idle.
  • Whether any app is using your microphone or camera, so calls count as active time.
  • How loud each app's audio is, to spot music or video playing in the background. No audio is ever recorded.
  • Your display's sleep timeout, so it stops counting when the screen would have turned off.

What ScreenWise never does

  • It never reads window titles, so it doesn't know which document, website or chat you have open.
  • It never takes screenshots, records your screen, or logs keystrokes.
  • It never connects to the internet. There's no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no ads.

Where your data lives

Everything is kept in a database inside ScreenWise's own app data folder on your PC, and Settings can open that folder for you. ScreenWise also keeps a small log of app health (when it started and quit, its version, your Windows version and any errors) so problems can be diagnosed. The log stays on your PC too.

Your choices

  • Export everything to a JSON file from Settings.
  • Choose how long full detail is kept, from 3 months to forever. Older days are folded into daily totals.
  • Delete all your usage data from Settings, at any time.
  • Pause tracking whenever you like, from the tray.
  • Uninstall ScreenWise. Removing a Microsoft Store app removes its app data with it.

Microsoft Store

You get ScreenWise, and its updates, through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles that part, under Microsoft's own privacy statement.

Children

ScreenWise doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included, because nothing leaves your PC.

Changes to this policy

If ScreenWise ever starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version ships.
